The Dr. D.Y. Patil Institute of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics offers four-year B. Tech. (Biotechnology) (BBT), four-year B. Tech. Medical (Biotechnology), four yeas B.Tech. (Bioinformatics) (BBI) and five-yeas M.Tech. Integrated (Biotechnology) (MIT) programs. The institute annually admits 180 students (60 in BBT, 60 in BBI and 30 in MIT and 30 in Medical Biotechnology) through a Central Entrance Test conducted by the Dr. D.Y. Patil Vidyapeeth. The institute follows a credit-based semester system. The system allows greater freedom to individuals to tailor their study to his or her specific needs. Basically there two Semesters in an academic year: The First or Autumn Semester from July to December) and the Second or Spring Semester from January to May). The students have to follow certain procedure and meet the academic requirements of each semester.
The Academic Programs of the Institute are governed by the Rules and Regulations laid down by the Board of Management of the Dr D.Y. Patil Vidyapeeth on the recommendations of its Academic Council of Dr. D.Y. Patil Vidyapeeth. The Faculty of Technology of the University continuously monitors all academic programs in Technology area and makes appropriate changes/improvements as and when required. The Board of Studies (BOS) in Biotechnology and Board of Studies in Bioinformatics have faculty members and senior external specialists in these fields. These monitor specific requirements in these up-coming disciplines and take necessary measures to update the curriculum and course structure, as and when necessary.
