Established in 2004, Dr. D. Y. Patil Biotechnology and Bioinformatics Institute (DYPBBI) located at Tathawade campus in Pune is a constituent institute of Dr. D Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, Pune.

The Institute is approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), GOI and is supported by DST-FIST (Infrastructure Support for Teaching & Research awarded by the Department of Science & Technology, Ministry of Science & Technology, New Delhi and GOI).

Programs on offer

DYPBBI offers various degree programs in Biotechnology- namely B. Tech. (General), B. Tech. (Medical Biotechnology), M. Tech. (Integrated Biotechnology), M. Sc. (Biotechnology) & M.Sc. (Bioinformatics) and Ph. D. in both Biotechnology and Bioinformatics.

The core competence of the institute lies in teaching and research, mainly in the fields of Microbiology, Environmental Biotechnology, Cancer Research, Plant Biotechnology, Genetics, Molecular Biology, Protein Biochemistry and Bioinformatics. Not only that, DYPBBI provides skill based training and hands on experience in basic and advanced sub areas in this field.

As a part of curriculum, educational and industrial tours are organized regularly for students.

State-of the art infrastructure

The teaching and research laboratories along with the classrooms are equipped with modern instruments, computers, audio visual presentation facilities and are wifi enabled. The research oriented laboratories including Microbial Diversity Research Centre (MDRC) and Cancer research laboratories have sophisticated, advanced instruments and dedicated research staff. In the Bioinformatics Research Laboratory, there is an Optimized Supercomputer, sponsored by DST-SERB, New Delhi.The well stocked library has latest editions of a large number of text and reference books in Biotechnology and Bioinformatics, national and international research journals.

Academic collaborations

The College has forged academic and research collaborations with University of Skövde, Sweden, Örebro University, Sweden and National School of Engineers, Sfax, Tunisia. Under the Linnaeus-Palme exchange program supported by ‘The Council of Higher Education in Sweden’, faculty and students from these institutions visit the other institutions on a regular basis. Not only that, DYPBBI has collaborations with industries and national research institutes to provide industry oriented experience to students.

DYPBBI organizes various seminars, symposia, workshops and ‘Industry Academia’ conclave for the students. Faculty and students also participate in different national and International conferences and present posters on their research work. Their research work has also been featured regularly in various national and international journals.
