The Institute has launched M.Sc (Biotechnology) program with four semesters from the year 2007 with the intake of 30 students admitted through a common entrance exam conducted by Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth. The students are evaluated through a specialized credit-based semester system approved by the Board of Management. The system allows greater freedom to its individual programmer to tailor to his specific need. There are two semesters in an academic year: Autumn-(July-December) and Spring- (January-May). The students have to follow certain procedure and meet the academic requirements of each semester.

The Academic Programs of the Institute are governed by the Rules and Regulations laid down by the Board of Management of Dr D.Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, on the recommendations of its Academic Council.

The Faculty of Technology of the Vidyapeeth continuously monitors all academic programs in Technology area and makes appropriate changes/improvements as and when required. The Board of Studies (BOS) in Biotechnology and Board of Studies in Bioinformatics have faculty members and senior external specialists in these fields. These monitor specific requirements in these up-coming disciplines and take necessary measures to update the curriculum and course structure, as and when necessary.

In their own interest, the students and the parents should fully familiarize themselves with the academic system of the Vidyapeeth. It is imperative that the students understand the assessment procedure and specific rules regarding the 'grading' and 'academic performance requirement'.
